Our Bavaria 44 from 1994 has an old style type of stuffing box / lip seal system on the rudder stock.  The inner lip seal made from rubber has broken down and last season we were getting a lot of water in via the seal.  Specially while motoring.

The amount was about one small glass of water per wave.  Needless to say after about 2 hours you have a fair amount of water in your bilge.

After searching the net I finally found Jefa.com solution.  Jefa already provides most of the rudder stock bearings in the marine industry.  Here the the link to the sealing information.

The gaiter is exactly what we need!  Specially because one can buy it unbonded as to refit the seal without dropping the rudder stock!

We will be replacing this old style solution with a modern Jefa gaiter solution!
